Judging Criteria

Speech Contest Judging Criteria

Winners of the Leader in Me Online Speech Contest will be selected by a panel from Live Life Education & FranklinCovey Education using a judging system with two criteria:

1) Message & 2) Delivery

Below is a rubric our judges will be using to review your three to four minute speech. Be sure to practice before delivering your speech and use the suggestions below to help you improve. (Also, be sure we can see and hear you clearly in the video!)

1) MESSAGE
Totally Awesome!

Wow! Your message is unique and inspiring. It contains fresh ideas and persuasive illustrations. Your speech was structured beautifully, including an introduction and close that caught our attention.

Pretty Good.

Congratulations on a good message and speech structure! Your ideas are interesting and you organize your thoughts well. We enjoy what you have to say. Way to go!

Coming Along...

Your message can be understood, but you may need to organize your thoughts a little more. Try keeping your message focused on one theme. Is there a story you could share to make it more personal? Your speech is coming along. Don’t give up!

Needs Work.

Your message could be more interesting. Your thoughts could be better organized. Go back to the drawing board and think about it a little more. You can do this! We really want to hear your unique message!

2) DELIVERY
Totally Awesome!

Wow! You are an excellent speaker! You appear to be relaxed and you don’t hold back. You use many of the elements of effective speaking, such as great posture, voice inflection, hand gestures, expressions, eye contact, movement, and pausing. Excellent work!

Pretty Good.

Your delivery is engaging, and there is no
question that you are a good speaker! You use some of the elements of effective speaking, such as hand gestures and voice inflection, and you are able to hold our attention. Good job!

Coming Along...

You are getting closer to delivering a good speech. Be sure to smile and avoid reading from your notes. Try speaking in front of a mirror or watch the practice video to identify ways you can improve. Keep working and you’ll get there!

Needs Work.

Your energy could be higher and your personality is not shining through yet. You may feel stiff like a robot. Relax! Take a deep breath. Try again, and this time, be yourself!

Poster Contest Judging Criteria

Winners of the Leader in Me Online Student Poster Contest will be selected using a judging system with two criteria:

1) Content & 2) Presentation

Below is a rubric our judges will be using to review your creative poster. Be sure to present a very clear poster with related good content, title and creative inputs. Kindly use the suggestions below to improve your poster.

1) CONTENT

Wow! Your content is unique and inspiring. It contains fresh ideas and persuasive illustrations. Your expression was structured beautifully, including quotes, and phrases that caught our attention.

Congratulations on good content and structure! Your ideas are interesting and you organize your thoughts well. We enjoy what you have presented. Way to go!
