Leader in Me Speech & Poster Contest

Public speaking and creativity are great leadership skills. 

We encourage all Leader in Me students to continue improving these skill-sets with this contest. We are excited to announce the ¬first-ever Leader in Me Student Online Speech & Poster Contest.

All K-12 students (grade 1-9) attending a Leader in Me School are encouraged to participate in either one or both by submitting a great four-minute speech on video or a create a poster on a leadership topic that matters the most to them (with the help of their parents or school) on or before November 30th, 2020.

One student from each category will have a chance to win a leadership grant and be interviewed by Dr. Kannan Gireesh, featured in social media channels!

Judges of the contest may be no less than four (4) employees of the Franklin Covey Education Division & Live Life Education. The judges’ decision would be final. No one will be allowed to be a judge if he/she has a conflict of interest with respect to any of the contest participants, as determined by the organiser in its sole discretion.

Speech Video & Poster Design submissions will be judged according to the contest juding creteria. Please refer. The winners will be announced no later than December 09, 2020, but may be later due to any unforeseen event.

Organiser reserves the right to change and update the rules, terms and conditions of this contest at any point in its sole discretion. It is the duty of the entrant to review and continually refer to the link for updates to the terms and conditions set forth herein.

SPEECH CONTEST

RULES & GUIDELINES

The following rules and guidelines will help parents (or guardians) support participating students, to produce a great video speech that the viewer can see and hear clearly:

Prepare a great message.

  • Identify an inspiring leadership topic that will resonate with the audience.
  • Don’t just recite the 7 Habits; focus on the application of principles.
  • The content can be delivered by one or more students (as long as there are signed release and parent permission forms for ALL individuals in the video).
  • Avoid sensitive topics that could be perceived as disrespectful, threatening, exclusive or offensive toward any person, group, or organization (e.g. political, religious, etc.).
  • Seek permission and/or mention the source of any third-party content referenced during the speech

Deliver a great speech.

  • Think of creative ways to make the presentation memorable, impactful, engaging, and unique.
  • Maintain great eye contact, use appropriate gestures, and speak clearly with expression.
  • Consider visuals (slides, posters, background, objects) that might strengthen the message.
  • Memorize the speech (as much as possible).

Produce a quality video.

  • The video should be about two to five minutes in length.
  • Make a great video with a reliable camera (we must be able to see and hear you clearly)!
  • Standard video formats include: MOV (.mov), MPEG-4 (.mp4), FLV (.flv), or WMV (.wmv).
  • The video must be absent of third-party intellectual property or copyright-protected content (logos on shirts, brands visible in background etc.).

Here are some ideas for potential leadership topics: (Only Examples)

  • Why everyone can be a leader.
  • What leadership means to me.
  • How I can make a difference?
  • A leader who has inspired me!
  • A problem I want to solve!
  • One idea that could change the world.

POSTER CONTEST

RULES & GUIDELINES

The following rules and guidelines will help parents (or guardians) support participating students, to produce a great poster that can be seen clearly:

Prepare and visualise a great content for the poster

  • Identify an inspiring leadership topic that will resonate with the viewers.
  • An innovative leadership principle & 7 Habits, which they have applied during this pandemic
  • Avoid sensitive topics that could be perceived as disrespectful, threatening, exclusive or offensive toward any person, group, or organization (e.g. political, religious, etc.).

Create a great poster .

  • Create a visually rich and thought invoking poster (Hand Drawn / Crafted)
  • Use appropriate chart papers, colours , craft items to enrich content
  • Use images, sketches, pictures, slogans, drawing and captions and give the suitable topic heading to the poster
  • The poster  must be absent of third-party intellectual property or copyright-protected content (logos on shirts, brands visible in background etc.).

Poster Requirements

  • Upload a digital copy of the poster
  • Posters must be hand drawn / crafted with a theme title
  • Creative size is no more than 12” width X 18” height (inches)
  • Digital copy upload resolution is 300 dpi in jpg format able file formats are (PNG, JPEG)

  • The true Heroes of the pandemic!
    (Showcasing one of the seven habits and its principles)
  • Practising leadership at home effectively.
  • My vision of a safer healthier world.
